Megan:

Megan is a 15-year-old girl whose parents are in the middle of separation. Whilst she is a normal teenager and is not an unordinary girl, there is nothing extraordinary about her either. Megan feels trapped and neglected with in the house that she lives. She feels her younger sister has taken her place and that her parents are to busy fighting to notice her any more. Because of this she wants to run away to find an escape and independence from a family, which she feels has wronged her. However, she does not have a lack of longing to her family, part of the reason for the amount of anger and tension towards her parents and sister is because of her will for them to notice and acknowledge her. She feels that the only way to make them realise the pain and seclusion she has felt with in the house is to leave it. But she does not feel they will notice her having left.

The Little Sister:

The little sister looks up Megan as a role model, not realising the aggravation that she causes her sister. She longs to be like her, and the similarities between them are very noticeable. They look very a-like and the little sister looks like a younger version of Megan. Because of this the feeling of being replaced is more evident in Megan. The little sister can be seen as a metaphor for the young child with in Megan that is trapped by the world around her. But she can also been seen as the part of her, which longs to be free and the dreams and ambitions of Megan. This is shown through the use of fairy’s, which is joint with the theme of escape.

The Parents:

The parents whilst two people form one entity, which drive Megan away from home. Whilst we never see them, throughout the intro we hear their constant arguments, which seem to ring and torment Megan. The parents are going through a separation, which appears to be because of both the hassle of their children and the question of the dad’s fidelity. Both of which seem to be causing the mothers steady down fall, whilst the dad appears strong but we are not sure whether his argument is truthful or not.
